About

LekkeEet brings South African restaurant owners and the diners who seek them a place to meet. A digital space that is simple to use and meticulously updated. A space where excellent writing and stunning visuals combine to entertain and inform while pointing you in the direction of your next great meal. A place that celebrates South African cuisine and the quintessential South African practice of kuier: getting together to laugh, eat, drink, sing, celebrate and toast.

Run by the writer and editor team of Hans Smit and Olivia Main, LekkeEet was born when a group of friends searched for an idea to serve as motivation for them to visit more restaurants in town. Creating a casual review panel (what became the LekkeEet Agents) seemed the best way to go and so they set off, notepads in tow, and casually reviewed a couple of local hangouts. The idea grew, as ideas do, and it was decided to launch a website with a reach nationwide.

LekkeEet presents South Africa’s best restaurants through vivid storytelling and the rich culinary histories of the towns and cities they are in. We cater to the person who is willing to search a little deeper for local knowledge of places to eat where authentic experiences can be had and shared.

If you’re an adventurous restaurant-goer, send us pics of your latest abd greatest culinary dicivery and we’ll send out scouts on a recce to gather more intel. If you’re a restaurant owner, contact us for information on how to join the ever-growing LekkeEet community of South African and international of ‘fynproewers’ with a passion for eating well and having fun while doing so.
